Police raid downtown Sutton Coldfield after riots and “shootings”

Police are investigating after reports of riots and “shootings” saw a main road to Sutton Coldfield closed. The incident saw Queen Street and several closed roads around the city center.

This morning (June 18) there was a police cordon with motorists and pedestrians redirected. West Midlands police have confirmed they were called to the city center early this morning to investigate the disorder and report shootings.

A spokesman said: “There are road closures in Sutton Coldfield as we investigate the disorder at The Parade in the early hours of the morning. A member of the public reported hearing gunshots and officers arrived at the scene within minutes.

“We are talking to witnesses and watching CCTV in the area. A man reported being punched in the face, but did not need hospital treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Images of the scene in the early hours of this morning showed what appeared to be forensic agents walking around the scene behind the shops on Birmingham Road. Since the West Midlands police provided an update, all road closures and cordons have been lifted.

The car parks in the town center have also been reopened.
