A statement posted to Aerosmith’s verified Instagram account on Tuesday explained that Tyler, 74, recently relapsed after surgery.
“As many of you know, our dear brother Steven has been working on his sobriety for many years,” the statement said. “After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the need to control pain during the process, she has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to focus on her health and recovery.” .
Tyler has been open about his substance abuse in the past. He was previously treated for prescription drug abuse in 2009. Tyler told CNN in 2017 that he was inspired to open Janie’s House, a home for battered and abandoned girls on the outskirts of Atlanta, after meeting women during a stay in rehabilitation seeking treatment, apart from the abuse they had suffered.
“While I was in (rehab), I discovered that most women there were abused, beaten and verbally and sexually abused in large numbers,” she said at the time. “It was like seven out of 10, eight out of 10.”
According to Aerosmith’s statement, the June and July dates of his “Deuces Are Wild” residence have been canceled while Tyler “focuses on his well-being.”
