Public transportation users in Quebec are no longer required to wear masks as of today.
The province introduced a COVID-19 mask warrant for indoor public spaces and public transportation in the summer of 2020.
In mid-May, it became the last province to remove the requirement to cover its face in indoor public spaces, and from now on, authorities say wearing a mask will be a personal choice.
Masks are still mandatory in hospitals, long-term residences and other health centers.
The Quebec government announced plans to remove masks from public transportation 10 days ago, a decision that received support from public health officials in the province.
In the latest figures released on Friday, Quebec health authorities reported 1,029 people hospitalized with the disease, including 26 in intensive care.
