COVID-19: Wales plans to lift last remaining coronavirus restrictions

The last remaining COVID restrictions are expected to be lifted in Wales, the government said.

Welsh Prime Minister Mark Drakeford will announce the update on Friday, with restrictions set to be removed from Monday 30 May.

Wales moved to alert level 0 in January and most measures were withdrawn in March.

But there are still some:

• Facial coverage is legally required in health and care settings (but nowhere else)

• Workplaces and premises open to the public should continue to perform coronavirus job evaluations

• If you have symptoms of COVID, you should have a side flow test

• If you test positive, you should self-isolate for at least five days.

These last remaining rules will be removed from Monday after the result of the last revision of the quarterly regulations.

Wales is the last nation in the UK to lift its COVID measures.

The Welsh government will continue to encourage people to take simple steps to protect their health, including keeping up with COVID vaccines and isolating themselves if they have symptoms.

COVID’s situation in Wales has continued to improve over the last three weeks.

The number of COVID-related patients in hospital is gradually declining, but the government said the NHS continues to experience pressure from the pandemic.

England lifted its final COVID restrictions in the country in February and international travel restrictions were lifted in March.

Scotland lifted its final COVID restrictions in March, while Northern Ireland lifted all restrictions in February.
