WhatsApp announced this week that it is implementing the possibility for users to select who from their contact list can see their profile picture, envelope and “Last seen” status. Prior to the official release, the new privacy settings were available to select users as part of a limited beta.
Until now, users had three privacy options to choose from to decide who could see their profile picture, envelope, and last visit status. The options were: everyone, my contacts and no one. Now, there’s a fourth option called “My contacts except …” With this new option, you can exclude specific people from your contacts from viewing your profile picture, envelope, and last visit status. It is worth noting that if you choose to hide your Last Visit status from others, you will not be able to see yours.
The new privacy option is being implemented for all iPhone and Android users around the world. You can access it by browsing the privacy section of your account settings.
WhatsApp announced this week that it is also launching new features for group calls. Most importantly, the app now lets you mute or send messages to specific people in a call. The app has also added a useful new indicator to make it easier for users to see when more people join large calls.
The launch of these new features comes when WhatsApp announced earlier this week that adding the ability for users to transfer chat history, photos, videos and voice messages from Android to iPhone using the app Apple’s iOS move. Prior to this expansion, users only had the option to transfer chats from iPhone to Android. The ability to transfer WhatsApp data from Android to iPhone is now being implemented in beta.
While it has been easy to transfer WhatsApp data from one iPhone to another, or from one Android to another, users have had to find difficult solutions when switching from Android to iPhone. The new tool will solve this problem and make it much easier to make the change.
