Severe storm monitoring continues throughout the PEI

Environment Canada warns that the strong storms in the Prince Edward Islands that occurred on Saturday afternoon may continue into the evening.

“Be aware of adverse weather conditions and take the necessary safety precautions. Be aware of up-to-date statements,” the weather agency advised. “Heavy storm clusters could persist this evening.”

After issuing a severe storm warning early Saturday, Environment Canada has updated it to a more severe “warning”, which has been downgraded to a clock.

“Dangerous” storms can cause strong gusts of wind, harmful hail and heavy rainfall.

Rain could fall at a rate of 25 millimeters per hour or more, the organization said.

Winds could blow from 60 to 80 km / h.

Environment Canada warned that heavy hail could damage property, break windows, damage vehicles and cause serious injuries. Strong gusts of wind can throw loose objects, damage weak buildings, break tree branches and overturn large vehicles.

Numerous strong storms were detected from Borden to Charlottetown and Gaspereaux, Environment Canada said in a press release at 3:46 p.m. Saturday. The areas between Malpeque and the national parks up to St. Peter’s Bay were also affected.
