“This level of police repression of the climate movement is unprecedented. We are now suffering multiple impacts from Australia’s continued climate destruction with unprecedented fires, floods and repression. “
The group plans to “converge” in Sydney from Monday 27 June to “block the streets of Australia’s most important political and economic center and cause an uninterrupted disruption”.
Blockade Australia’s actions prompted the NSW Parliament to introduce new laws and sanctions in April to discourage protesters disrupting traffic in bridges and tunnels.
NSW police said it was not a raid, but a “police operation”.
The group says about 100 police officers, including a team of dogs, helicopters and regular uniformed police officers, surrounded the bush property and were searching it all day.
“This footage [see above] it looks pretty cold. It’s not, “the group posted on Facebook.
“We were surrounded at dawn by men in camouflage, hiding in the woods, with piles of weapons. Then the helicopters began to buzz over them. Police cars and buses passed at full speed through the neighborhood, with lights and sirens crying.
“Police dogs and men in black with body shields and full-face helmets entered our space. This massive and costly police operation is aimed at preventing climate activists from taking action.
“It is not clear what the legal basis of the attack is … no other people have ever been harmed during these climate protests.”
