“My beautiful wife, that’s … you can’t stop here unless you have amazing people behind you. You’re the most amazing people.

‘You stole my look tonight. I had to find this quickly. Other than that, I think you’re doing better anyway. Thank you dear. And I would also like to thank you, you know, a little shout to our children.

He continued: “My kids are everyone’s favorite. They can’t be here. They got fake last minute IDs and went to clubs.

Patti Newtown took part in an emotional tribute to her late husband, industry legend Bert Newton.

“Thank you, thank you so much for this nice welcome and for this handsome man of mine, it’s not fabulous! What can I do without him!” she began.

“In fact, I didn’t think I would be able to do that tonight, because it’s still very raw and I’ll never get over the fact that he’s not here. But I know he’s with me. And here. And he’s inside me and my daughter.”

He then showed her a necklace bearing Bert’s name.

“Lauren did it for me, so I’ll carry it around my neck forever. I’ll know who I am and when I don’t remember it anymore, I’ll say who it is? It will be Bert,” he continued.

“Lauren and I sat with him for hours and hours and we remembered all the wonderful things he did, because he did so many great things, and we talked about the people he met and the shows he did. “We were very proud of him because a lot of things happened, he was very brave and he never complained.”

She continued, “I was always trying to find something to look forward to. I had something to look forward to because I knew Lauren and I and my grandchildren were going to see him.

“He had this in which he said,‘ Not everyone lives their dream, ’but he did, and he loved it, he really lived his dream.

“He started on television when WIN Television just started. He was 18 when he did his first Tonight Show, The Late Show on Channel 7.

“He compared so many shows, hundreds of shows like IMT and New Faces, and of course his 14 years at Good Morning Australia. It was also a huge success. But oddly enough, the only thing he really liked was this show. The Lodges.

“He made it his own and the more things went wrong, the better he felt. You know how many people came here drunk, getting their awards, now it’s not so much, but in the early days, people came and said stupid “He said of Bert’s love for the Lodge

‘This was her baby. He loved it because it was a challenge, and he was very lucky that his executive producer Peter Faiman set him free and told him: take a risk and take a risk, make it your own. And he did.

“He made it his own and the more things went wrong, the better he felt. You know how many people came here drunk, getting their prizes, not so much now, but in the early days, people would come and say stupid things and he would love it.

“I was terrified that someone would drop me off here tonight and I thought, don’t worry, Bert would love it, that’s what he wanted. He had another great love and that was family. He loved his mother, his sister and his brothers and then came Matthew and Lauren.

“And then she had her six beautiful grandchildren to focus on. And to love and adore how they do it. I’ve been her partner for 57 years, it’s been a long time. I don’t need applause because I’ve loved every minute of these 57 years old.

“He told me that when we get married, we’ll have a few ups and downs, but he’ll never be bored. And he was so right. He was never bored. I think I’ve been very blessed because he chose me.

“I think that’s why we’re so happy that from now on, the Most Popular Presenter Award is known as the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.
