Tornado clocks have been issued in parts of western Manitoba as heavy storms are expected to cross the provincial border on Sunday.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued tornado clocks on Sunday afternoon.
“Severe storms are expected to form in an unstable mass of air centered on the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border this afternoon, some of which have the potential to produce tornadoes,” the ECCC told tornado surveillance.
“Strong winds, heavy rains and heavy hail will also accompany the severe storms that form. This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation.”
The following areas fall under the watchful eye of tornadoes:
- Dauphin – Russell – Roblin – Winnipegosis
- Melita – Boissevain – Turtle Mountain Provincial Park
- Minnedosa – Riding Mountain National Park
- Swan River – Duck Mountain – Porcupine Provincial Forest
- Virden – Mouse
The ECCC said Manitobans in these areas should be prepared for bad weather and protect themselves in the event of threatening weather.
He said in the event of a tornado or tornado warning, people in the area should go inside to a room on the lower floor away from the walls or outside windows. They must leave any temporary or independent shelter, such as mobile homes, vehicles, tents, or trailers.
“As a last resort, lie down in a low place and protect your head from flying debris,” the ECCC told the clock.
