WASHINGTON TWP., New Jersey (WPVI) – South Jersey crews are working to contain a wildfire that is burning in the Wharton State Forest.
Officials say the fire has burned at least 2,100 acres in Washington, Shamong, Hammonton and Mullica counties. The fire is limited to 20 percent, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said Sunday night.
Batsto Village and all associated hiking and mountain biking trails are closed to visitors.
The Mullica River Camp, Mullica River Trail, and boats along the Mullica River are closed from the Atsion Recreation Area to the village of Batsto.
These closures will remain in effect until further notice.
Pinelands Adventures has suspended kayaking and canoeing trips and the Paradise Lakes camp has been evacuated due to a fire.
There are several roadblocks:
- Route 206: from Chew Road to Stokes Road (from 12 noon)
- Route 542: from Green Bank Road to Columbia Road
No injuries were reported.
