Two people were stranded off the coast near Dawlish Warren after a boat they were on broke down. The crew of the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat was alerted that two people were in distress around 9:50 p.m., Friday, June 17.
Volunteer lifeguards, led by Inshore Lifeboat Helm, Harry Griffin and crew Ed Thomas and Ed Steele, launched shortly after 10 p.m., and rushed to the scene, quickly locating the four-meter rib and the its two occupants.
The crew assessed the situation and determined that the rib engine could not be started. They then towed the boat and the couple to a safe place in Exmouth Marina. No one was injured or taken care of.

Other Exmouth RNLI volunteers in attendance were Deputy Launch Authority Officer Rick Newcombe, Chief Launcher Neil Cannon, Tractor Driver Karl Halford and Ground Crew Rory Carrig, Jason Luff and Jake Richards.
Once they were satisfied that the ship and its occupants were safe, the volunteer crew and the lifeboat returned to the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat station at 10:40 p.m., and resumed service shortly thereafter. .
The helmsman of the lifeboat on the shore, Harry Griffin, said: “We are happy to help and we are happy to end the situation safely.”
