Whitevale Road is closed between Bloom Road and Barnes Road, south of Lumby, due to flooding.

The rains of recent days have increased the threat of flooding in the Lumby area.

DriveBC reports that part of Whitevale Road is closed between Bloom Road and Barnes Road, 2 miles south of Lumby, due to flooding.

There are several rural properties and some larger farms along this stretch of Whitevale Road.

The town of Lumby activated its Emergency Operations Center on June 14 and issued an evacuation alert. Last week there were floods along the Bessette and Duteau streams. Stream levels had dropped, but more rain over the weekend has once again inflated the area’s waterways.

The BC River Forecast Center issued a flood alert for the South Thompson Basin on Sunday afternoon, including the Shuswap River and surrounding tributaries.

The next DriveBC update on the closure of Whitevale Road is scheduled for 8 a.m. Monday, June 20th.
