Firefighters and police are investigating the cause of a mobile home park fire in southeast Calgary that killed an elderly person.
Teams were called to Mountview Mobile Home Park, at Block 6700 SE 17th Avenue, around 8:45 a.m. after reports of a house fire.
Authorities say neighbors had called 911 after seeing smoke coming out of one of the community homes.
The CFD was able to contain the fire, but the unit suffered significant damage as a result.
Two occupants, a man and a woman, along with a number of pets were in the dwelling at the time.
Calgary police say the woman, who was about 70 years old, died at the scene. A pet cat was also found dead.
A dog was found alive and is now in the care of a neighbor.
Police are working to determine if the fire is suspicious in nature while the CFD remains on the scene to control the hot spots.
