The Morning After: Google uses Drake’s “Texts Go Green” to explain RCS to Apple

Google has been trying to push Apple to adopt the GSMA RCS messaging protocol, from not-so-subtle blows to I / O 2022 to long-running Twitter threads from the head of Android. The latest tool from Android makers? Drake lyrics.

Android’s official Twitter account shared a “video explaining the unofficial lyrics” for “Texts Go Green,” the third song on Drake’s latest album. Both the title and the heart are referring to what happens when an iPhone user prevents someone from contacting them via iMessage, which causes the messages to be the default SMS and loses features such as read receipts.

Quickly tearing down any cultural label referring to the lyrics of a recent Drake song, the Twitter account calls him “a real lunatic.” And I close my Twitter app.

“Mat Smith.”
