Four people face court charges over murder after Laidley stabbing

Four people have been charged with murder, attempted murder and house fire following the death of a man in Laidley on Monday night.

Key points:

  • Police allege a 48-year-old man was killed at a Lockey Valley home
  • Two 19-year-old women, a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old man were charged with homicide, attempted homicide and arson.
  • They are due to appear in court on Wednesday

Two 19-year-old women and a 24-year-old man reported their case to the Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

They did not appear in person or via a video link.

The case was set for a commitment statement in July.

Another 19-year-old had his case heard in Caboolture Magistrates’ Court, which was postponed to be mentioned in Ipswich on Thursday.

All four were arrested Tuesday afternoon.

He arrived after police were called to a house on Patrick Street shortly before 10pm Monday in response to reports that a man had been stabbed several times.

A fire at the Lockyer Valley home was also allegedly set on fire and was extinguished by emergency crews.

A 48-year-old man died at the scene shortly afterwards.

He needs public help

Police are urging the public to come forward, especially with information on any suspicious vehicles seen in the area on Monday night.

Acting Detective Garry Watts said a sedan and SUV had been confiscated.

“If members of the public have CCTV footage they think they can help, they can contact the police,” he said.

Although police initially believed the alleged perpetrators were four men, the new information meant that two 19-year-old women were charged.

All the arrests were made in different places.

It is unknown if the man and his partner knew the accused, but police are investigating whether there were any drugs.

The city was shaken

People in the small town were shaken after learning of the alleged murder on the main street.

Publican Ryan Beaumont was woken up by the scene Monday night.

“I live in the place and I heard all the sirens,” Beaumont said.

“A lot of people are worried because it’s a very unusual thing to happen in Laidley.”
