Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Okanagan, including Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops.

BC Interior is expected to receive the first hot stretch of the summer this week, starting on Saturday and extending into early next week.

“Dangers: Daytime highs rising between the low and mid-1930s with night lows to mid-teens,” says Environment Canada’s special weather statement.

BC Interior is expecting its first warmer-than-average temperature stretch starting this weekend. On Saturday, temperatures will reach 20 degrees above. For the rest of the weekend and early next week, temperatures will rise between the lows and mid-30s and lows at mid-teens.

With high temperatures, the risk of heat-related illnesses increases.

High temperatures will also reduce freezing levels to higher elevations, which means that snow melting and snowflake instability and increased flow currents due to runoff are possible.
