Texas shooting: 14 children and a teacher killed in a primary school shooting

14 children and a teacher have been killed in a shooting at a Texas elementary school, the state governor said.

The attack took place at Robb Elementary School in the city of Uvalde, about 80 miles west of San Antonio.

Gov. Greg Abbott said the shooter was an 18-year-old man who lived in the city and entered the school with a handgun.

He added that the gunman is dead and is believed to have been killed by the responding officers.

More than a dozen children were taken to Uvalde Memorial Hospital, while San Antonio University Hospital said a 66-year-old woman was in critical condition.

Robb Elementary School has an enrollment of just under 600 students.

As an elementary school, the classes will be for children between five and 11 years old.

Earlier, the consolidated independent school district of Uvalde said that all the schools in the district were closed due to the shootings in the area.
