The Pro-Labor PRGuy Twitter account publicly reveals the identity

On Friday afternoon, the PRGuy account tweeted a message to followers with a link to a video recorded with Sydney political youtuber Jordan Shanks-Markovina claiming to be the author of the account.

“Hi, I’m Jeremy Maluta,” the tweet says. “Maybe you remind me of hashtags like #IStandWithDan and #ICantBelieveItsNotAStaffer. I caught up with FriendlyJordies so I could get to know you all face to face. Enjoy!”

In the hour-long interview with Shanks-Markovina, an ally on Twitter, the couple discussed the reasons why Maluta advanced ahead of the new Yemini Federal Court actions.

“It’s a double-edged sword because, on the one hand, the anonymous person has been hanging over my head for a long time. It’s a bit of pressure. I want to end all this and do it, bring my name to light, in the open, “Maluta said.

“On the other hand, it was not done according to my terms. He’s someone who’s gone absolutely crazy … playing with the system to test me because he thinks I’m kind of scared working for the government. “

Maluta and Shanks spoke at length about their criticism of the media coverage of the Andrews government and the Labor Party. Maluta’s face was partially darkened by a message written about Yemini.

Yemini promised to return to the courts this week, this time seeking information from Telstra in its search to reveal the user’s identity and file legal action on the comments posted by the account at the height of the pandemic.

Yemini obtained an order from the Federal Court last week ordering Twitter to hand over the details of PRGuy’s account, to whom he intends to sue for posts on social media that he says defamed him.

Twitter complied with that order and provided Yemini with several IP addresses – unique series of numbers that identify a device on the Internet – but now needs Telstra to identify the owner of the addresses. The name and email provided by Twitter did not provide enough information to identify the account owner.

Created in March 2020 using Simpsons character Troy McClure as an avatar, PRGuy quickly became one of the most vociferous animators of the Andrews government’s pandemic response.

As the number of followers on the account grew, it now has more than 90,000 followers, PRGuy and his supporters repeatedly clashed with politicians, journalists and other commentators who were critical of Prime Minister Daniel Andrews and other Labor figures.

Yemini, a correspondent for Canadian high-right website Rebel News, which was connected to the anti-blocking movement, said the account owner has used a virtual private network, or VPN, to mask his IP address since created, but occasionally registered. without activating the shield.

Maluta said he planned to leave Twitter, but Yemini’s legal action spurred him to stay on the platform.

“If he was trying to shut me down, you could probably tell he did it a little bit,” he said.

“It’s really funny that I was leaving, so I had already announced that the job was done. I’m telling you [I’m] Going through and doing other things in my life, and it forced me to stay. ”
