Antonio Conte was hoping to stay at Tottenham after talks with transfer manager Fabio Paratici

Antonio Conte is gearing up for next season at Tottenham following talks with football general manager Fabio Paratici on Friday.

Conte has been told the club wants to sign at least six or seven players, as the Spurs are looking to support the Italian in the transfer market.

The former Chelsea, Juventus and Inter Milan head coach has one year left on his contract, but is more likely to sign a new contract than if the Spurs keep their transfer promises.

The Spurs are aiming for several areas, with goalkeeper, center, winger, midfielder and striker among the positions they plan to strengthen.

Up to six or seven signings could come, but there is currently an imbalance in terms of home players, which will need to be addressed.

Conte wants more depth in the squad, while adding experienced players, a change from the recent times when the Spurs have targeted younger players.

There are some at the club who believe it is inaccurate not to have invested in the player team in previous years, but there is a recognition that they did not always get the right recruitment.

The additions of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski have given the Spurs the belief that they are now improving their recruitment under football general manager Fabio Paratici.
