66 min: The Netherlands give the ball to England in their third defense, Hemp takes control but his cross is bad and comes out on goal.
64 minutes: there is a Mexican wave …
62 min: The Dutch seem to have given up the press, they must be tired. Miedema is on, so is Brugts.
Stanway, Russo and Toone join the party for England. Greenwood, England and Kirby out.
59 minutes: England look more confident in the future; the pace is faster and ideas are more inventive. Kirby and Hemp combine to create a couple of chances in the area, culminating in Mead’s shot blocked.
57 min: Holland get two corners in quick succession, but Beth England and then Earps do their part to limit the danger.
55 minutes: It was a silly minute or so. Spitse is still frustrated and confronts Kirby dropping her.
GOAL! England – Netherlands 2-1 (Mead, 53)
Ninety seconds after the missed penalty, England have the lead. Hemp runs to the left and sends a perfect cross into the back post for Mead to get home from close range.

50 min: Penalty in the Netherlands.
49 min: Greenwood clears Van de Donk in the box but the referee gives nothing. It looks like a penalty … and the VAR must be about to overturn the decision.
47 min: Hemp enters from the left and points, but his shot is deflected towards Mead’s path; the substitute tries to control the ball in the thigh, only to see it bounce by a shot of goal.
Van de Donk and Dijkstra are on their way through the Netherlands.
Second half
Here we go again!
Beth Mead is in England instead of Kelly in England.
Will England look to make a change to the top? England have had no service all night and have struggled in the central role, replacing White who has Covid. How can Wiegman change that?
I suspect most of the second half updates will be related to replacements.
I don’t think she meant that …
Medium: England 1-1 Netherlands
I’m not sure Wiegman learned too much from the first 45 minutes. Kirby looked brilliant from the front when he caught the ball and playing from behind against a team that can press is not very successful. England are lucky to be matched thanks to the chance of Bronze. I suspect we will soon see changes.
45 minutes: two minutes added.
44 min: Van Veenendaal poorly controls a pass back to his own goal line to excite the audience, but recovers the situation without problems. The half slows down for the break.
42 minutes: Bright gives Beerensteyn a push on the back near the midfield to make sure the Dutch can’t counter.
40 minutes: I’m not sure Beth England has had a touch yet …
38 minutes: Martens is on deck grabbing his ankle. She will not want to risk anything so close to the euro.
36 minutes: Spitse makes a wonderful first touch, then sprays the ball for Martens to cross Beerensteyn, but his shot is blocked. The Dutch seem to have a plan when they get the ball in the last third, unlike England.
34 minutes: Hemp has his first run on the left, but his cross is clear.
GOAL! England 1-1 Netherlands (bronze, 32)
Bronze sweeps to the right to pick up a pass from Kirby, pulls the ball from his feet and sticks a cross to the back post, which lands in the top corner after fooling everyone, including the goalkeeper.

30 minutes: Kirby is cleared on the edge of the area by Nouwen, who is penalized for his problems. Greenwood lines up and points to the bottom corner, but his shot is not strong and Van Veenendaal goes down well to save and hold on.
Bronze lines up a cross from the right from the right, but she throws it straight for a goal kick. Summarize England so far.
28 min: England, despite having a lot of ball in the last third, struggle to create good chances. It is useless when Greenwood decides to take part in a terrible short corner routine, which causes the ball to be cleared for a serve.
26 minutes: England are trying to play from the back and at the moment it does not seem especially valuable. It just puts them under undue pressure with little reward.
24 minutes: England is almost punished again, as Beerensteyn is left alone in the middle, clings to a pass, but Daly chases her just in time to clear it from another corner. Spitse rolls it from the left and England doesn’t face it, but no one in a white shirt can touch it either.
GOAL! England – Netherlands 0-1 (Martens, 22)
England are trying to play from behind and the Dutch want to pressure them. Brillant takes a long time with the ball inside his own area, before making a bad pass that is intercepted. England get it on a corner, but fails when Martens heads a Spitse cross through Earps into the corner.

20 minutes: Earps needs treatment after receiving a noise that comes out to hit the ball. It looks good after a talk with the medical staff. Let’s go again.

18 minutes: Greenwood fails to control a strong bronze pass, allowing Beerensteyn to gain possession, but can only send it for a serve.
Holland returns to England when Roord’s shot deflects on a couple of occasions towards Beerensteyn on the edge of the six-yard area, she turns a couple of times to create space, but Earps gets big and repels the shot.
16 minutes: Bright ends prematurely with a Dutch attack. He responds by turning his back to pass the time. There is not much speed in the Dutch game at the moment.
Min. 14: Beerensteyn comes down to the pitch and complains about the referee’s fire. Today we have VAR but no one seems interested.
At the other end, the Dutchwoman gets behind and Hemp detects an opportunity: closes Van Veenendaal, who hits his clearance against the striker, but the ball bounces just wide.
12 minutes: Kirby throws a free kick into the area from the depths, finds Greenwood on the edge, heads for goal and England, but his outstretched leg doesn’t connect.
10 minutes: Nouwen decides to haggle from behind and continues until Kelly strips her, causing panic to the Dutch, but his teammates sweep his mess.
8 minutes: England chases a short pass, but Van Veenendaal comes out quickly to hit before any danger can be made.
6 min: Daly pings in the middle, interests England (the front) but can’t touch and Van Veenendaal comes out to claim. England (the team) is very much in the lead right now and enjoys most of the possession.

4 minutes: Daly spins the halfway line and throws his opponent to give a free kick. She will be tested on this side today, that’s for sure.
2 minutes: England have started brilliantly in Leeds. Kirby finds space on a couple of occasions inside Kelly. She puts on two dangerous crosses: the second one flies out of Hemp’s head.
To start
Pipi! Pipi! Pipi! Here we come!
The Netherlands wears white T-shirts and blue shorts, while England wears orange. What a most absurd situation.

The sweet Caroline is being played …
My neighbors are Dutch, so it really is a huge night for the street. It could be quite tasty later depending on the result.
Mark Parsons says he has the utmost respect for Sarina Wiegman, who replaced him in the Netherlands. He believes six teams can win the European Championship: England and the Netherlands are in that category.
Wiegman hopes fans can be the team’s “12th woman or man” during the European Championship and talks about the need for momentum during the tournament.

Lucy Bronze on her move to Barcelona and more.
Daly gets the assent from the left side today. The Leeds fan will want to impress in a position she is not used to, although Daly is known for her versatility.
“I’ve never played at Elland Road, which is weird because I played at Leeds for a long time and I’m a die-hard fan,” Daly said.
Pre-match reading.
Fran Kirby starts with England, very good news for her and the team. His heavy fatigue has meant he has missed many Chelsea games this season and there was uncertainty about his place in the squad for the European Championship. It will be interesting to see how he does it. In the tournament it could be very helpful to get off the bench to break the lines, so the more minutes Kirby can spend under the belt, the better.
