Wordle is now an essential part of many people’s morning routine (or a midnight compulsion, if you’re only a little interested).
The game is still as popular as ever after exploding earlier this year and can still be played for free on the New York Times website.

What is Wordle?
Wordle is a simple word game that offers players six attempts to guess a five-letter word each day.
Every day there is a new word and the word is the same for everyone.
The game now has millions of players and has become instantly recognizable on social media, with people sharing their scores in the form of green, yellow, and white (or black squares if you’re playing in dark mode).

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, “tiara” is defined as “a jewel worn by a woman on the head on very formal social occasions”.
While you may be familiar with the word, there are a couple of factors that make it a tricky Wordle answer.
First of all, while having two vowels is usually helpful, having three is a five-letter word is unusual, so most people won’t automatically look for it again after correctly guessing the “I” and the ” A “.
Repeated letters also represent a common obstacle, while the word ending in an “A” adds an extra level of complexity.
How do I play Wordle?

Start by entering a five-letter word and press Enter.
The letters will then turn green, yellow, or white.
Here’s what these colors mean:
- Green: You have put the correct letter in the right place
- Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in a different place
- Blank: The letter is not in the word
You can use your previous conjectures to find out the next guess and try to guess the word in six attempts.
Once you’re done, the game will give you the option to share your score on social media.
Are there any tips for winning?
Everyone has their own strategies, but there are some golden rules that are worth remembering if you want to have the best chance of winning.
First, you want to start with words that contain a lot of common letters. Many players like to use many vowels early on, as well as common consonants such as R, S and T.
Various experts, from linguistics teachers to mathematicians and computer scientists, have rated the best starting point.
A computer scientist going through crvlwalnek on TikTok looked at the Wordle source file to analyze the frequency of each letter in the winning answers and found that the best initial word was “after”.
Other entries that have been endorsed include:

- Sorgir
- Arose
- Learn
- Ground
- Samey
Another good tip is not to use duplicate letters at first. For example, starting with a word like “awake” is not optimal, as it uses two Aces.
Sometimes you may want to ignore your previous guesses to remove some letters. However, Wordle also has a “hard mode” that prevents you from doing so. You can access it by clicking on the settings icon at the top right.
Finally, it is important to think about common conventions when guessing words. For example, there are many words that end in -ICK or begin with an SH-. Revise the alphabet as you make your guesses and see what works phonetically, and you will be rewarded with these satisfying green squares.
