The Jackson Women’s Health Organization, also known as the Pink House, is the only authorized abortion provider in the state of Mississippi.
It was at the center of the case, which led to the fall of Roe v Wade, after challenging a state law limiting abortion to 15 weeks.
The Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization reached the top of the U.S. judicial system as a vehicle for overturning Roe v Wade.
The clinic was still operating Saturday morning, with escorts showing up at the state’s only abortion clinic around 5 a.m. to prepare for the patients ’arrival, the Associated Press reports.
Anti-abortion protesters began mounting stairs to look over the property fence and large posters with messages that included “abortion is murdered” soon after.
Coleman Boyd, 50, a longtime protester outside the clinic who often comes with his wife and children to call the gospel through a mechanic, incorrectly told women waiting for appointments that they were violating the law.
“Ma’am, your baby is alive right now. Please have mercy,” Boyd shouted at a patient who entered the clinic.
Tensions were high throughout the medical center and only a handful of abortion rights activists were present. This came as no surprise to some.
“Being in the South, I’m used to being a little inferior to progressive opinions. However, I’m not discouraged from being here alone right now. We fight for human rights and that affects everyone,” Lauren Spigner said.
