Rep. Mary Miller, an Illinois Republican MP, described the Supreme Court’s decision to quash Roe v. Wade as a “historic victory for white life” at a rally with former President Trump on Saturday night.
Miller said, “President Trump, on behalf of all MAGA patriots in the United States, I want to thank you for the historic victory of white life yesterday in the Supreme Court.”
- Miller’s spokesman later said he had misinterpreted his statements and intended to call the decision a victory for “a right to life.”
Between the lines: the comment was “out of tune with the disproportionate impact that the repeal of abortion rights will have on women of color,” writes Jill Colvin of AP.
The big picture: Health care providers are preparing for abortion restrictions that are coming to states across the country to disproportionately affect black women, reports Shawna Chen of Axios.
Miller has previously sent criticism in 2020 to refer to Adolf Hitler, AP reports. She said, “Hitler was right about one thing. He said, ‘Whoever has the youth has the future.’
