THIS WEEK: TEMPERATURES COOL AS THE RISK OF STORM RISES

There is already an extreme change of pattern in British Columbia, with Tofino wrapped in the sea cloud on Monday afternoon, the harbinger of cooler air flowing inland. On Tuesday, temperatures will moderate after the first heat event of the season on the south coast ends.

Winds will bring temperatures down to 10 degrees on the coast and five degrees inland.

The cooler air makes the atmosphere a bit naturally unstable, so there is a risk of storms across the province. The heaviest showers are always a threat to steep terrain, but heavy hail and strong winds are an additional threat to more developed storms inland.

Some of these storms could reach severe limits on Tuesday afternoon.

Isolated and persistent showers will continue to spiral across the province with the upper trough on Wednesday. A drying trend is expected on Thursday and Canada Day, with temperatures close to the seasonal mark.

Much cooler weather, with a few degrees of season, will continue in the southern sections of BC throughout the long weekend.

Meanwhile, northern areas will be warmer than seasonal ones most days this week.
