Acting (and co-owner) sporting director Todd Boehly has evidently fully thrown himself into his new role, and is working the phone lines and furious contacts to execute the transfer plan that (presumably) he and Thomas Tuchel have drawn up.
This includes chatting with Manchester City not just for one, but two possible signings, with Chelsea, it is said, now “in talks” for both Raheem Sterling and Nathan Aké. Both players have been linked repeatedly over the past few weeks, especially Sterling, but according to the latest Telegraph post, Boehly “contacted Premier League champions on Monday to check their ratings of both players, with Chelsea ready to sign both “.
Unfortunately, the report estimates what these assessments may be, which would have been helpful. Earlier, City were said to be looking for £ 45-55 million for Sterling and something similar was also mentioned for Aké when Newcastle United were sniffing earlier this month. It’s not cheap, especially when Sterling don’t seem to be solving a big need, or providing a big upgrade to the squad, while Aké hasn’t been exactly indispensable for City.
But the needs must be, and if we believe this is what is needed, I guess it’s good that we’re moving forward.
Chelsea open talks with Manchester City on the double move of Sterling and Ake. Juventus are still pending big money for De Ligt and ongoing talks about Kounde. A little more transfer here too #cfc https://t.co/WmixcXbZv4
