Wimbledon 2022: Djokovic, Raducanu and Murray in action on the third day: live!

Weather update: 15 minute increments continue. Now they tell us there will be no game at least until 12.30.

Weather update: Start putting 15 more minutes at 12:15.

What do you do during a Wimbledon delay? Sing, of course. No, not Cliff, it’s Half Man Half Biscuit.

After me …. “Who’s Afraid … of Virginia Wade”.

Unlike us (uncomfortable cough), Wimbledon’s official Twitter page is fighting for content during the weather delay.

Some news from Andy Murray. A reminder that today is the last game on the center court and he has an 8-0 record against his opponent, John Isner.

Weather update: no game before 12 noon. It’s about 15 minutes, almost long enough to see the 1980 Borg and McEnroe tiebreaker.

Emma Raducanu returns to action today on the central court. Tumaini Carayol looks forward to his showdown with Caroline Garcia following in the second round Novak Djokovic-Thanasi Kokkinakis.

The BBC is now showing the highlights, so we’ll get back to sports topics. How about a top 40? Steven Pye is the man for the job. Wimbledon only 10 by the way!

I love a useless statistic, but I never know how to process it on how many strawberries it would take to fill the Center Court. What do you do with this information? I don’t feel like saying “wow” or questioning the number involved. I have no answer. Nothing. A void inside.

Beyond my strawberry existential anguish (good name for a 60s psychology band), how about this one:

Andy Murray’s opponent today, John Isner, dropped 54 aces in his first game. That leaves him just 40 off the all-time ace record of Ivo Karlovic in the ATP Tour of … 13,728. This is worthy of a “wow”.

Weather update: The decks are off although it still looks a bit cloudy above. Let’s talk about game maybe, a little bit, maybe start in about 25 minutes or so. So at 11:45 p.m. Possibly.

Andy Murray and Serena Williams have been the first starters at Wimbledon, but what about their siblings?

Well, last night it was announced that Venus Williams and Jamie Murray will join in the mixed doubles.

Rain delays begin

Oh, there is no game until 11.30am at the earliest, according to official reports. There’s no excuse not to see more Keith Mansfield songs in the meantime. That’s nice.

Updated at 11.06 BST

This was the time a little earlier. There is talk of removing the covers, but perhaps putting them back on, as rainfall levels divide opinion.

The umbrellas are up at Wimbledon, although the BBC’s Carol Kirkwood says the clouds will break and there is only a 5% chance of rain as we spend the afternoon. It’s still raining now. Light winds, sunny intervals and temperatures around 22 degrees are expected although some bad clouds could return later.

BBC coverage begins, so we hear one of the great songs of the great Keith Mansfield: the Wimbledon theme song, ‘Light and Tuneful’. Keith there looks like he just took a Borg set.

Keith Mansfield.

A little more reading here, while Tom Little’s version of the grandstand theme is always worth looking at.

Here is the game order on the main tracks today. The game will begin at 11 a.m. on the outdoor courts. All times are BST.

Today we return to the top half of the men’s singles draw and there are still 64. Rafael Nadal is in the bottom half and yesterday he was pushed in his first goal against Francisco Cerúndolo. Greg Wood reports.

Nick Kyrgios lived a five-set thriller against Briton Paul Jubb yesterday, but once again he was not without controversy. The Australian is clearly a fan of punk, say. Hopefully Sean Ingle doesn’t get in the way.

Nine Britons until the second round is the largest number since 1997. And they could still be 10. Trying to keep an eye on them all was quite a task as Simon Cambers explains.

Let’s delve deeper into that Serena Williams classic against Harmony Tan through our Wimbledon man, Tumaini Carayol.

Preamble

Sometimes a Grand Slam can take several days to boil. But this one doesn’t. After a great vibrant action on the first day, the Wimbledon audience enjoyed a true classic last night when Serena Williams lost to Harmony Tan, number 115 in the world. Serena served for the match and led 4-0 in the decisive tie-break, but could not rule out her rival.

That Center Court thriller ended less than 12 hours ago, but now we look forward to what should be another day of ooohs, aahs and oh dic. Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu return to the center court today and both face tough second-round clashes against John Isner and Caroline Garcia respectively.

There is more British interest in Court One with men’s No. 1 Cam Norrie facing Spaniard Jaume Munar while Heather Watson returns quickly. He beat Tamara Korpatsch yesterday and made his bet to reach the third round for the first time since 2017 against China’s Wang Qiang on track two. Ryan Peniston fights American Steve Johnson on track 3 while Harriet Dart plays a delayed first-round match against Spaniard Rebeka Masarova.

Defending champion Novak Djokovic opens the central court action against Thanasi Kokkinakis at 1.30pm, but there is a lot of action (starting at 11am) to continue on the outside courts before that. Sounds good? Okay, let’s play …
