Fireworks are illegal

With Canada Day festivities in full swing after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the Kelowna Fire Department reminds residents that it is still illegal to light fireworks without permission.
And, permits can only be obtained by licensed professionals.
“Illegal use of fireworks poses a safety risk and can cause stress to both people and animals,” said Kyle Jacobson, fire safety and life educator at the Kelowna Fire Department.
“Instead of risking injuries and fines, we ask residents to attend a professional fireworks display. Glowsticks are also a safe and fun alternative for children.”
Kelowna Festivals is once again hosting Canada Day festivities in the downtown area throughout the day Friday culminating in a large fireworks display over Okanagan Lake in front of Waterfront Park from 10pm.
Jacobson says more than 10,000 people are injured each year in Canada and the United States in accidents caused by fireworks.
Fines of up to $ 500 can be imposed per event for illegal use.
