Vaccination is not over, as is the Covid-19 pandemic. Logically, the virus should return every year like the flu. Given the current situation, the High Health Authority has just recommended the establishment of a new flu vaccination campaign and Covid-19 from the autumn for the most vulnerable.
A new flu and Covid-19 vaccination campaign begins in the fall
In a new opinion made public on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, the High Authority for Health (HAS) came to recommend the implementation of a new dose of vaccine against the virus Covid-19 from the fall of 2022 in the most vulnerable people. This recommendation is therefore framed in a context full of multiple uncertainties about this pandemic.
Based on the work of its Vaccination Technical Commission and the three scenarios described by the World Health Organization, the HAS has thus made known its estimates of the vaccination program in France. The “optimistic” scenario is a sign of a return to normalcy, with in particular vaccination focused on immunocompromised people; the “intermediate” scenario emphasizes a “periodic recovery” with a reminder campaign among at-risk populations; and the “pessimistic” scenario suggests the emergence of a new, more virulent variant, which involves the generation of the booster dose.
The authority continues to comment on these scenarios: “In order to anticipate the likely resurgence of a variant in the fall, HAS has developed a vaccination strategy to combat Covid-19 based on a periodic recurrence scenario. of the virus, which he considers more likely ”. At this stage, it is only recommended to provide for the organization of a campaign to strengthen vaccination by the autumn of 2022 for the populations most at risk of suffering from serious forms of the disease, but also after health professionals “with special consideration. to the efficacy data of the future vaccine against asymptomatic forms “. of the disease ”.
Finally, the High Health Authority explains that “for reasons of mobilization and logistics, the HAS recommends linking this vaccination campaign against Covid-19 with that of the flu.”
