Rio Ferdinand has matched Manchester United fans over Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo finished the season as United’s top scorer with 24 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions. The striker endured his longest goal drought for more than a decade during the hectic holiday season, but ended that barren career with emphasis.
The 37-year-old scored 18 of those Premier League goals and only Mohamed Salah (23) and Son Heung-Min (23) finished the campaign with more. Ronaldo has often won United’s solo games with his goals this season.

Despite Ronaldo’s contribution, United still finished the season with their lowest Premier League points total.
United fans have unanimously agreed that United have disappointed Ronaldo this season and Ferdinand shares that view.
“On a personal level he does what Ronaldo does, he scores goals, he wins games and without Ronaldo they don’t make it out of the round of 16 in the Champions League,” Ferdinand told FootballJOE’s YouTube channel.
“He has scored victory goals on several occasions and has kept his side of the business. I think the club has obviously not played its part in giving him the platform for success.
“It just shows you that the big players, the ones who talk like the best players ever – and he’s one of them – you can’t do it alone, you need your teammates to help them and that proves it. We have to wait and see ‘l. [Ronaldo in Ten Hag’s plans].
“That’s something we have to wait for and give it time.”
