Brad Hesse, deputy director of operations for Vancouver Fire and Rescue, said the fire broke out shortly after 10 p.m. on the 1800 block of East Hastings Street.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames firing through the windows. Hesse said the building was engulfed by fire and was quickly upgraded to a three-alarm fire.
About 47 firefighters have worked to put out the fire, which has destroyed the building. Vancouver police evacuated two neighboring apartment buildings as a precaution.
Hesse said the fire was limited to the Value Village building, but an apartment building had some smoke damage. As a result, a few residents stayed elsewhere for the night.
He said there were no reports of missing or injured. On Thursday morning, firefighters were still spraying water to turn off the hot spots, he said.
No cause is known and the fire is under investigation.
