San Diego played a pair against the Diamondbacks this week, losing 7-6 Tuesday before a 4-0 win in the second game. Thursday against LA, San Diego had an early lead, but eventually fell short in a 3-1 defeat. Holder Joe Musgrove made 7.0 innings with three wins, five hits, one walk and 10 Ks. Blake Snell will take on the Padres pile on Friday for the title role. This year, in seven starts, Snell is 0-5 with a 5.60 ERA. In his 35.1 innings, he has won 22 in 32 hits and 19 walks with 38 Ks.
Along with the Dodgers, they played three against the Rockies this week. LA lost the first two games before Wednesday’s win. On Thursday, Los Angeles posted two runs in the seventh inning during the comeback victory. Mitchell White made 4.2 innings at the start with a six-hit win and a walk.
Tony Gonsolin will headline the Dodgers on Friday. In his 14 starters this year, Gonsolin is 9-0 with an effectiveness of 1.58. Over 74.0 innings, he has won 13 in 40 hits and 23 walks with 69 strikeouts to his credit.
The Padres are 8-1 in the last nine games on Friday and 7-1 in the last eight in the second game of a series. The bottom line is 4-0 in San Diego’s last four in the second game of a series.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are 93-45 in their last 138 overall and 38-18 in their last 56 against the NL West. LA is 8-3 in its last 11 games on Friday.
PICK: I’m staying in Los Angeles. Gonsolin is having quite a year, and his latest numbers have been solid. In his last three starts, Gonsolin is 2-0 with a combination of 17.0 innings, three wins, nine hits and five balls. As for Snell, he has given up eight leads in 11 hits and six balls in his last two starts in 10.1 innings. The Dodgers should be able to find some goal opportunities in this one.
