- Tropical storm warnings are in effect in much of the coastal Carolinas.
- The waters near the Carolinas will be choppy and dangerous.
Tropical Storm Colin has formed near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with rain bands and strong winds enveloping the Carolinas coast this holiday weekend.
This storm will affect plans for the July 4 weekend in the Eastern Carolinas.
This new tropical storm will bring the threat of ripple currents and rough surfing off the coasts of the Carolinas and possibly north to southeastern Virginia. Stay out of the water if possible.
Heavy rain bands will be touring these shores this weekend. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is expected, with isolated amounts of up to 4 inches.
Since Colin is on the ground, the chance of intensification is quite low, which means the threat of harmful winds is also low. But there will be strong winds in rain bands that reach the ground.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from the South Santee River in South Carolina to Duck, North Carolina, and to Pamlico Sound, where winds are likely to exceed 40 mph this weekend in these tropical rain bands.
