Published on Canada Day, the new Research Co. survey he surveyed Canadians’ feelings toward the notion of sovereignty and found that British Colombians were most closely linked to their identity as Canadians.
More than two-thirds, or 67 percent, disagreed with the idea of separating BC from Canada. But 19 percent of residents said the province would be better off following its path as a country. Another 15 percent said they were unsure.
The survey found that separation support is highest in Alberta (33%) and Quebec (32%).
“Support for the separation has declined in Alberta over the past six months, but remains the highest in Canada,” pollster Mario Canseco said in a press release. “In Quebec, with provincial elections near, support for sovereignty has increased slightly.”
