CDC Covid Community Levels June 24
Tuolumne County Public Health There are 236 new community-confirmed community cases and 18 cases of inmates at the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC), with eight hospitalizations from Saturday, June 25 until today, Friday, July 1. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation reports 21 active cases to SCC. There are 212 active community cases below last week’s 260, up from 129.
Tuolumne Office Emergency Services Coordinator Dorie Bietz detailed that Tuolumne’s epidemiological team is coordinating several outbreaks, such as an assisted living center and nursing homes. One challenge for teams is that the CDC changed its definition of a six-foot “close contact” for 15 minutes to anyone within a shared airspace or room without protective devices for more than 15 minutes. This reflects a changed understanding of how the virus spreads and not necessarily that the virus is more contagious.
Bietz shares that the current wave of Covid Variant Omicron BA.2 is declining, but Omicron BA.4 and 5 variants are increasing and now account for 50% of the lab tests shown. The overlap of the two waves of variants was combined to increase the number of current rises. Bietz says, “I have no projection of when we’ll go up and down again.” She notes that nationally BA.4 / 5 is more transmissible than BA.2, it does not necessarily produce worse illnesses or more hospitalizations, but as they become more infected, hospitalizations increase. ”The impact for the hospital local is currently not serious, “the cases are mostly medical augmentations, they are a step down, they are not occupying the ICU beds significantly.” Dr. Kimberly Freeman, Tuolumne County Health Officer , noted that two of the three most recent deaths from Covid were cases hospitalized locally and had comorbidities, the other death was a delayed report of a death that occurred in May.Dr. Freeman agrees in the for the most part the impact on the hospital has been the same as on other companies with impacts on staffing due to the home of several staff members due to illness.
Influenza Locally and throughout the region, Tuolumne County reports that “We have experienced high levels of influenza, including 14 patients who were admitted to Adventist Sonora in the past 2 months.” The flu is a respiratory disease and the way to prevent the spread and illness of the flu is the same as protecting yourself and those around you from COVID-19:
- Get vaccinated; contact your doctor or pharmacy about the flu vaccine
- Wear a mask in public, especially indoors
- Stay home when you are sick!
- Keep your distance and avoid congestion when possible
- Wash your hands and clean surfaces frequently
Covid cases are known to increase in wastewater samples throughout California, but a specific percentage of infected people in a given community is not known. Tuolumne County Health Officer Dr. Kimberly Freeman reports, “It’s really not possible to estimate. No one really knows how many people are sick and they’re being tested at home and it’s not reported.”
Recent cases of the Covid-19 community reported this week include 12 cases aged 17 years or younger and 110 cases aged 60 years or older. The demographics of the new Covid cases: 5 girls and 5 boys from 0 to 11 years, 1 girl and 1 boy from 12 to 17 years, 21 women and 8 men from 18 to 29 years, 20 women and 11 men from 30 years, 15 women and 11 men. in the 40 years, 15 women, 11 men and another one in the 50 years, 17 women and 25 men in the 60, 19 women and 12 men in the 70, 14 women and 8 men in the 80 and 11 women and 4 men . 90 years or older.
The total current case rate, an average of 14 days for Tuolumne County increased to 38.5 from 38.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.
