The Meteorological Office has reported no tsunami threat to Australia after a capital was shaken by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake.
Darwin residents have been shaking after the city was shaken by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake shortly after noon on Friday.
The quake struck at 11.36 on the coast of Timor-Leste (12.06 Darwin time) and was 54 km deep, according to Geosciences Australia.
It passed to a depth of 10 km below the epicenter near Lospalos, Lautem Municipality, Timor-Leste.

The Meteorological Office has reported no tsunami threat in Australia.
Residents of Darwin reported feeling the effects of the quake, which lasted about 30 seconds.
“Right now I feel a strong earthquake in Darwin,” one local tweeted.
“Hello Darwin, earthquake ?!” asked another.
It is not the first time an earthquake has been noticed by locals in the Top End.
In December 2021, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake shook Territorians in the early hours of December 30th.
The quake struck 170 kilometers underground in the Banda Sea off Timor-Leste and about 400 km from Darwin.
