Keir Starmer promises to improve Brexit, not return to the EU

The UK would agree to follow the European Union’s food security and agriculture rules under a Labor government, Sir Keir Starmer will say today as he lays out plans to reverse elements of Brexit.

“With Labor, Britain will not return to the EU,” the Labor leader will insist, arguing it would be a “recipe for division” to negotiate single market membership or customs union.

However, he said Labor would be prepared to follow EU agricultural standards in an attempt to reduce trade frictions at the border and solve some of the problems associated with the Northern Ireland protocol.

The EU has consistently argued that the UK should accept the so-called dynamic alignment of food standards that would allow the free movement of food.
