Two students from St. John’s remembers his friend as a kind soul who loved the energy of life and are grateful for the support of strangers after his drowned death in St. John’s. John’s over the weekend.
Alex Rebelo and Mason House only met Natasha Gosho for a short time, but they quickly connected with her when she arrived in Newfoundland and Labrador in May.
“I only met her for a few months, but in that time period I connected so well with her,” Rebelo told CBC News on Monday. “That’s the kind of person he was. He was so warm and kind, kind and just beautiful.”
The group celebrated Gosho’s first Canada Day on Friday with a day at the water at Rotary Sunshine Park on Friday. The day took a spectacular turn around 5pm, when Rebelo said Gosho fell from a pool float and did not resurface.
Gosho’s body was removed from the water Saturday morning by a search and rescue team, and police investigation into his death continues.
“[Friday] It seemed like an eternity to me, although from start to finish it probably lasted three or four minutes, “Rebelo said.” Please put on your life jackets. It only takes a few minutes or a few seconds for things to go wrong as it did for us. “
House, Gosho’s roommate, said the young woman was drawn to the province from South Africa to study science, pursuing the “American dream” with the goal of becoming a pharmacist.
He says Gosho loved the province and its people, but he did not always like the characteristic climate of the island.
“She always said it was cold here,” House said with a laugh. “And she said the people here were so nice and kind … Here, she felt very welcomed by everyone.”

House and Rebelo say they have felt this kindness from people across the province in the days following his death. House has created a GoFundMe page in his name to help his family and raise funds to bring his body to South Africa.
His efforts have raised nearly $ 17,000 as of Monday afternoon.
The couple also thank the strangers who, according to Rebelo, helped them overcome the emotional trauma and even made efforts to save Gosho immediately after the accident.
“It has brought us a lot of peace,” Rebelo said.
“They didn’t even know her, and her family is really overwhelmed by the support,” House added.

The couple says they will remember Gosho for his positivity, kindness, friendship, and his warmth and confidence to be open to trying new things, which House says he will love from their friendship.
“She would get up and dance, and every morning she would get up and sing in the apartment … And I also like to sing, but not in front of people,” she said.
“I’ll have to learn how to do it. You just don’t care. You just have to live. I’m so glad you did, I have so much to remember.”
