Police checks on the road in the Lake Country area on Canada Day removed five disabled drivers from the roads in seven hours.

The Lake Country RCMP conducted two CounterAttack roadside checks between 7pm and 2am on July 1st. Five drivers were issued 90-day driving suspensions and their vehicles were confiscated for 30 days.

Officials say this does not include the collision with UTV that left one dead and a 34-year-old man arrested for impaired operation that caused the death.

“Lake Country RCMP reminds drivers that there is no excuse for drinking and driving. Driving any motor vehicle or boat, as long as it is damaged by drugs or alcohol, is a felony under the Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act. Whether driving a vehicle on a road, such as operating a boat on a lake or driving an all-terrain vehicle on a runway, drivers should plan ahead before leaving to arrange safe driving if their summer activities involve alcohol, ”he said. dir Const. Owen Hazlewood.

“By being on the highway and traffic patrol for the time I have been, you suffer too many fatalities and accidents as a result of a decision, the decision to drink and drive, which could have been easily avoided,” he added. Hazlewood.
