A YMCA-run night camp outside of Huntsville, Ontario. will close for several weeks after at least eight staff members tested positive for COVID-19.
Camp Wabanaki, on Lake Vernon, was to receive its first guests overnight Monday morning.
But organizers became aware of COVID-19 infections among staff who were in final training on Saturday.
“Our YMCA informed Wabanaki Camp families of the inevitable cancellation of our first summer camp sessions due to a COVID-19 outbreak among several staff members, which occurred when they attended to the final staff training, ”the camp said in a statement sent. and CTV News Barrie.

Simcoe-Muskoka district health unit spokeswoman Kara Thomson-Ryczko told CP24 that there is no set date for the camp to reopen.
“The camp has been cooperating with SMDHU to reduce exposure to staff and future campers,” he said. “No date has yet been set for the normal return of operations, but the health unit continues to work closely with the camp to achieve this goal.”
