A large column of smoke was detected over Greater Manchester as firefighters confront the fire in Bury

Firefighters are facing a large fire in Bury this evening. The fire is believed to have broken out in a Radcliffe building on Tuesday evening (May 31), with huge clouds of black smoke coming out of the scene.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said they are currently at the scene of a fire on Milltown Street.

They warned that the fire is generating a large column of smoke and area residents are advised to keep the windows and doors closed.

Spectators reported seeing a large number of fire units as teams rushed to deal with the flames. Images shared on social media showed that thick clouds of smoke could be seen from a distance as they swelled over the city.
