A man has pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping and stealing cars in Adelaide

A man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping a baby in the Adelaide suburb of Klemzig.

Ilias Latsis was arrested 10 hours after blatantly stealing a car with a four-month-old baby in the back seat.

It led to a two-and-a-half-hour search, which ended with the baby being found safe and returned to his mother.

Latsis pleaded guilty to both car theft and child abduction when he faced court Tuesday.

He said he felt sorry for her and that his time to run away with and without the baby ended in blind panic.

With the cold and humidity, the mother had left the baby in the car as she went in to fetch bread from a delicatessen.

Latsis, 37, admitted to using the small window to steal the young mother’s car.

He threw another stolen vehicle, a Mazda ute, right next door.

It was a review of CCTV footage in the run-up to the robbery that led police to also report a child abduction.

The distance between the charcuterie and where the car was found was only four miles.

Latsis did not tell the police where he left the baby, it was up to them to find him.

Latsis also did not tell police where he was. They raided the city and finally found him on the CBD on Monday night.

The baby did not need any medical treatment.

Appearing through a video link, Latsis began the hearing by apologizing through his lawyer, who said he has deep remorse for the anguish caused to the baby’s mother and therefore wanted to plead guilty. immediately.

Her lawyer spoke out of court to say her client did not know the baby was in the car when she grabbed him and that he was “panicking.”

Police were able to report the guilt to the boy’s mother on Tuesday afternoon.

He left the family home with them shortly after the court hearing.

Latsis, however, denies that he committed any act that could cause harm to the boy by leaving him inside the car while he was fleeing.

This charge will be reconsidered when he returns to court next month.
