A pensioner has denied causing the death of a five-month-old boy who died when a van climbed onto the sidewalk and crashed into his stroller while his mother was pushing him.
Shelagh Robertson, who appeared in Cambridge Crown Court on Wednesday, pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing Louis Thorold’s death by careless driving on 22 January last year.
The 74-year-old was allegedly driving his Mazda 2 without proper attention and attention on the A10 in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire around 3:50 p.m.
His car is said to have collided with a Renault Master van, which crashed into the sidewalk and fatally struck the baby. Louis died at the scene and his mother was seriously injured in the accident.
Rachael and Chris Thorold, Louis’ parents, appeared in court on Wednesday as Mrs. Robertson of Waterbeach spoke to confirm her name and present her statement.
