A woman is in the hospital after being stabbed inside a Vancouver Metro grocery store during noon on Thursday.
Surrey Mounties said they were called to a royal Canadian store in the city shortly before 1 p.m. for the incident.
They said in a press release that officers arrived at the site on 104th Avenue in the city’s Guildford neighborhood “just minutes after the call” and found an injured woman in the store.
The woman, who the police say was conscious and communicating with paramedics, received first aid and was later taken to hospital.
Officers called his injuries “serious,” but said no more.
Mounties did not publicly speculate on the reason for the case, but said they were looking for a suspect who left the scene before police arrived.
She is described as a woman in her 30s with long, dark hair. At the time, she was wearing a navy blue V-neck shirt, black pants and white shoes and a blue wallet, they said, and posted photos of the woman.
So far it seems to be a random attack. Police said they were unaware of any clashes before the victim was stabbed and the women did not appear to know each other.
The stabbing was reported shortly after the provincial public safety minister addressed an increase in unknown attacks in the region.
He spoke in the BC legislature in Victoria on Thursday morning, one day after another stabbing that appears to be random that occurred in Vancouver.
Mike Farnworth said he knows police are taking such incidents seriously and did not offer any solution. Watch his answer in the video above.
In Surrey, police are trying to identify a suspect and ask witnesses and those with more information to testify.
