In Brentwood, a train crashed into a car crossing the tracks, leaving three people dead and three injured, authorities said.

Three people were killed and three others were injured when the car they were in was hit by an Amtrak train in East Bay on Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

The tragedy occurred around 1 p.m., in the unincorporated area of ​​Brentwood, when the car crossed the train track near Block 3000 on Orwood Road and was hit by a westbound train going from Stockton to Martinez, according to Steve Aubert, Eastern Fire Commissioner. Against Costa Fire.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, Aubert said. Two of the three survivors were seriously injured, with an adult being flown to a hospital and a child to a hospital by land transport.

Amtrak representatives did not immediately return a request for comment.

Aubert said the collision occurred in a rural area where there are no guards or signs at the intersection.

“It’s a bad crossing,” he said, adding that trains can run through that area at about 80 miles per hour. “Unfortunately, it’s just a recipe for disaster.”

The names of the victims were not disclosed, but officials said the murdered people were believed to be adults.
