Another body was found after a boat carrying 8 children and 5 adults capsized in Lake Pueblo State Park

The boat capsized with 13 people on board around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, tweeting the southeastern Colorado Parks and Wildlife region.

Shortly after the crash, lifeguards rescued eight youths and three adults from 60-degree water, the department said. Searchers found the body of an adult and were still looking for another.

The body of the missing adult was found Tuesday morning, said Joe Stadterman, operations manager at Lake Pueblo State Park.

“Our MERT (Marine Evidence Recovery Team) team worked all night and around 5:45 am, we located a victim at 107 feet of water,” Stadterman said.

Apparently, a combination of bad weather and an overloaded boat contributed to the tragedy, Stadterman told CNN affiliate KKTV.

He said the 16-foot Sea Ray pleasure motor boat usually has a capacity of five to six people.

“We know this ship had 13 people on board, and that really complicates things,” Stadterman told KKTV.

He said some of the children rescued from the capsized boat were wearing life jackets, but the two recovered adults were not.

“Life jackets are paramount,” Stadterman said.

“There are very, very few people, if any, in my career who have recovered from drowning in plain water who have been wearing a life jacket. Your chances of survival in a boat accident with a life jacket put are substantially larger than they are. “
