SET OF BLUES FOR THE APPROACHER’S FOCUS … BUT THE FREE AGENT IS BIG
Carlton will prioritize the draft after the 2022 season after years of being active on the trading table, SEN reports.
But four-time Port Adelaide winner Kane Cornes believes coach Michael Voss is “eager” to bring Power free agent Karl Amon to Carlton.
The Blues separated from their top 10 selection last year to replace Adam Cerra of the Dockers, while also acquiring free agent George Hewett of the Swans. These moves came a year after they also gave up a first-round player to trade with Fire Sprinter Adam Saad, while also signing Giants free agent Zac Williams for a lucrative contract.
The age Last week he reported that Carlton would have the maximum salary space to add talent to his roster, both through periods of free agency and trade, after this season, despite being active in the last two seasons.

But SEN reported this week that Carlton would focus on drafting and resigning players this year, rather than staying busy at the trading table.
Carlton is said to be one of Victoria’s many clubs showing interest in Port Adelaide Amon, an unrestricted free agent who is eligible and is considering moving home at the end of the season.
SEN reported that the Blues would only sit at the negotiating table if the deal involved a player at the “lower end of the pay scale, if any.” But Cornes said so WITHOUT SA Breakfast to “look at this space” in relation to an Amon-Blues partnership considering that he and Voss had a “great relationship” during the latter’s period as Assistant coach of Power.
“… I think you’ll find that (Voss) is eager to bring Karl Amon to the Carlton Football Club,” Cornes said. WITHOUT SA Breakfast.
“That makes a little bit of sense to me. He’s an unrestricted free agent. So Carlton doesn’t have to give up anything to get him.
“It would fit perfectly with the demographic list of what Carlton is doing and given his performance this year, he would think they will have a period in which they will be in the prime minister’s window.”

The Blues currently have their first- and second-round natural choices in this year’s draft, but they don’t have their third-round pick as a front of Cerra’s trade.
While the Blues have secured star players like Patrick Cripps, Sam Walsh and Jacob Weitering with long-term deals in recent times, they have a large number of key players signed until the end of 2023 who would like to close, including the top goalkeeper pitchers. Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay, as well as ruck duo Tom De Koning and Marc Pittonet.
Curnow and McKay, in particular, would attract big money to the open trade market.
STAR PARKS ROOS TALKS
North Melbourne striker Cameron Zurhaar has postponed talks on a new contract until the end of the season, according to his coach.
Zurhaar, who has been one of the Kangaroos’ top 50 players for the past four seasons, has returned to form in recent weeks, scoring 13 goals in his last five games although North has lost every game.
But Zurhaar manager Anthony McConville said so Herald Sun. “Both sides have put the talks on hold” at this stage.

“He’s playing in this role where he depends on the movement of the ball and the time is not right to have fruitful discussions. We’ll leave that for now and talk to them later in the year,” McConville said. Herald Sun..
Zurhaar, who turned 24 last weekend, has flourished in the North since being selected in the 2016 draft.
He has been among the club’s top two goalkeepers for the last four years in a row, including leading the table in 2020 with 18 majors in 16 games.
GAFF, WILL EAGLES ALL BENEFIT FROM ONE DIVISION?
Adam Selwood of the Premiership Eagle says the West Coast could benefit from Andrew Gaff finding another club.
The troubled Eagles have entered a transitional phase of the roster, prompting experts to speculate on which suitable West Coast players could find a new AFL club to help the Eagles speed up their rebuilding.
Gaff, an all-Australian double and the best and fairest winner of 2015, is contracted with the Eagles until 2024. But Dockers’ great Paul Hasleby last week suggested that Gaff, who will turn 30 next month, would be best served at another club to pursue a prime minister at this stage of his career.
Talking to SEN WA’s The Run HomeSelwood pondered whether it would be best for both the Eagles and Gaff if the star winger explored the possibility of moving home and finding a club based in Victoria.

“I think someone like Andrew, as much as he could develop his career on the west coast and maybe three or four more years and get that shape back,” Selwood said.
“I guess the older you get, and if you’re Victorian, this flag chase is within reach of him now, so if there’s anyone on the list, the West Coast might consider whether it’s time to run for it.be being in another environment to look for what you are looking for, but maybe you could benefit (West Coast), this could be an option.
“Knowing Andrew, the person he is, I don’t think the West Coast would want to let him go without something quite strong in return.”
