Mumsnet user asks why the public should believe the “usual liar” Boris Johnson
Boris Johnson has denied today that he was a “regular liar” when asked why the public should believe what he says.
In an interview with Prime Minister Justine Roberts, founder of Mumsnet, she said users of the online forum asked about her “trust and integrity.”
One user asked, “Why do we have to believe everything you say when you’ve been proven to be a regular liar?”
Johnson said he did not accept the description or the premise of the question. “People throw all sorts of accusations at me about all sorts of things … just look at the record of what I do,” he said.
The Prime Minister asked him if he would resign because of the Partygate scandal. “I don’t see how I would be responsible right now, with everything that’s going on, just giving up … the project I embarked on,” he said.
Earlier, Dominic Raab rejected the idea that his boss could face a vote of confidence as early as next week, describing speculation as “Westminster foam”.

Johnson says it would be irresponsible to give up a “miserable” party.
He cited the “enormous pressures” on the economy, the war in Ukraine and its “massive agenda that I was chosen to fulfill” as reasons to remain in office and not try to “abandon” the ship.
But Johnson is under increasing pressure from Conservative MPs to consider his position following Sue Gray’s report on the Downing Street confinement party.

Boris Johnson has been awarded the title of knight to a senior Conservative MP who turned against his leadership and called for his resignation earlier this week.
Former Cabinet MP Jeremy Wright, Conservative MP for Kenilworth and Southam, has received the gong as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee anniversary honors.
The timing of the announcement is uncomfortable for the Prime Minister, just days after Mr Wright condemned Johnson for Partygate and asked him to resign “for the sake of this and future governments”.

Modifying Johnson’s ministerial code will not restore public confidence, says the watchdog
Boris Johnson has not been able to counter the view that he and his ministers consider themselves above the rules, said the leader of a powerful parliamentary ethics oversight body.
Jonathan Evans, chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, said the planned changes by Mr. Johnson in the ministerial code were “very unsatisfactory” and undermined the role of the prime minister’s ethics adviser.
Downing Street announced last week that the code would be updated to remove the expectation that ministers would waive any breach of the code, but would not allow the adviser, currently Lord Geidt, to begin his own investigation into possible breaches.

Boris Johnson says he did not eat cakes at the law-breaking birthday party
Boris Johnson said “no cake was eaten” at the Downing Street birthday party during the confinement, police fined him for attending.
Northern Ireland Minister Conor Burns described the Prime Minister as “ambushed with a cake” during the event.
In an interview with Mumsnet today, Mr Johnson was asked to say his favorite biscuit and whether he now “preferred the cake”.
He replied: “If you are talking satirically about that miserable event whose image appeared on the front pages, I did not consume any cake. I can tell you a lot. “
The prime minister said his favorite cookie was a chocolate digestive.
