A local truck driver has revealed that he spends an incredible amount of money on petrol just to keep his freight business alive.
Tristan Wernhard, owner of AA Plus Driver Trainer and operating a fleet of six trucks, said the fuel cost him an additional $ 25,000 a month compared to the start of the year.
He also spends about $ 1,000 on tolls each week and told his drivers to try to avoid them.

Speaking to Nine radio presenter Jim Wilson, Mr Wernhard said it was almost the breaking point and that running his business was almost unsustainable due to costs.
“When it’s sustainable and when it’s not … and it’s at the point where it’s not,” he said.
“It simply came to our notice then.
“Drivers are struggling so much and I can’t afford to give them a pay raise because all I have is an extra cost of fuel, tolls, tires, maintenance. Either service your truck or pay your bills. Which way are you going? “

Peter Khoury of NRMA said oil prices had risen to a record high earlier this week, but said he was not sure what could happen over the weekend.
“There is hope that some of the global factors causing this chaos may stabilize and there is some hope that supply problems will be addressed in September,” he said.
“But we won’t hang our hats on anything.”
The average price of diesel and unleaded fuel in Sydney is still over $ 2 a liter.
