Tight end David Njoku was looking for a great payday with the Cleveland Browns and on Friday the two sides reached an agreement to make it possible. The 2017 first-round pick signs a four-year contract worth up to $ 56.75 million, confirmed Jonathan Jones, an NFL expert on CBS Sports. The deal is worth $ 28 million guaranteed, according to Njoku’s agent.
Njoku thanked the Browns organization in an Instagram post.
Njoku is reportedly getting $ 28 million guaranteed by signing up. The deal provides the 25-year-old with $ 14.1875 million a year, making him the highest paid tight final quarterfinal in the league. The Browns put the franchise label on Njoku in March and were working to close it long-term.
Njoku had been absent from the OTAs while waiting for a deal. When the team signed Jadeveon Clowney, Njoku posted on his Instagram story “I guess it’s my turn …”, and suggested that he would like to be the next player to agree on a contract and that he didn’t have to wait too long.
Last season, Njoku recorded 36 receptions for 475 yards and four touchdowns.
This year, Njoku will not only have a new contract, but a new quarterback. During the offseason, the Browns traded quarterback Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans.
Watson could be suspended for a significant amount of time this season, following allegations of sexual assault. It has been rumored that the team will try to replace quarterback Baker Mayfield, but nothing has become of the commercial talks.
