Drinking water leaves after five sterile years

Danny Drinkwater has finally left Chelsea and described his move to the club as “a business move that has gone wrong”.

The midfielder has played only 23 times for the Blues since moving to 2017, with his last competitive game at the 2018 Community Shield.

And in a farewell post on his Instagram account, Drinkwater, 32, described his turbulent time in west London.

He wrote: “My time at Chelsea is over … I really feel very strange writing this.

“I, the club and the fans are very disappointed with the result, there is no doubt.

“The injuries, how they treated me, the mistakes I made, the problems on the pitch, the lack of playing time … the list of excuses could be endless, but it wouldn’t change and I can’t change what happened.

“Football is a fantastic sport, but for both parties it was a failed business move, it’s as black and white as that.

“I apologize to Chelsea fans for how this turned out. I wish they could see me to the fullest with this shirt doing what I love. All the best.”
